Drip

Saturday's happy things are:

  • I walked to the store today.  It has been a while since I walked into the city and it felt good.  It is about four miles from home and took about an hour and a half. Here are some pictures of some pretty things along the way.

  • One of the things about autumn is that leaves fall.  Yesterday the trees along the street, where DIY Craft & Thrift is, started shedding their beautiful yellow leaves.   The floor of the store was leaf glittered.  Except for the very first time, every time we tried to vacuum the store, the vacuum failed in some way.  Keziah purchased a vacuum today and the leaf glitter has gone away.

  • Keziah had a friend helping out at the store today.  That freed her up to get things better organized and put more things on the floor.  The store is looking great and we got a huge amount of donations today too.
  • The Inktober prompt is Drip.  I attempted a stalactite and a stalagmite, with a drip in the middle.

Cinco de Mayo

There was nothing special for me this year for Cinco de Mayo. Here are some happy things from today:

  • I chose to walk in the city today with little in mind but playing Pokémon Go, Pikmin Bloom, and going to a store. Keziah dropped me off and I did these things and walked to the studio. It was a really nice day to be outside.  I took a few pictures of things that made me happy.

  • For some reason I haven't been feeling very creative lately. When I'm at the studio my mind goes blank and I don't know what to do. I should probably have a plan in mind but I don't. Today I found something to do that wasn't very artsy or crafty–it was untangling string for later use–but it felt like I started to feel better about being there. After doing that for a little bit I helped Keziah by finishing some hand sewing on a tunic for Gideon.  Maybe some creative juices started flowing a little.

The School of Art

Yesterday the friend I visited in the hospital on Saturday, Isa, passed away.  I'll remember her smile and sweet conversations the most.  Hug your loved ones.

Some happy things from today:

  • This morning my friend Kimberly and I walked to the studio. With the warmer weather and sunshine I'm having a better time being outside. Having company is helping too.  We saw a hawk resting in front of a church.

The Merrimac River.

  • Keziah, Dennis, and Gideon met us at the studio. We got a tour of the four buildings there. The architecture and details in the mansion always fascinates me. Things like every fireplace being unique but also the door hinges, knobs, and locks being decorated.

Ceilings in the attic.

The sycamore tree.

  • Last year I took a ceramics class at the art studio.  Today I collected a piece that I had missed when getting everything else.  It has been bisqued, but I still need to glaze it.  That will be for another day.

Sadness

My afternoon was spent with friends visiting another friend at the hospital who will most likely not make it. It was hard. Grieving is hard. The friend always had a smile, nice things to say, and a good story. She will be missed. Some happy things:
  • In the morning, I walked to the pharmacy and had my bivalent covid vaccine. So far no side effects and I am more protected.
Hello finger!

  • Our little group went out to lunch after the hospital visit. It was a good way to center.

  • The day took a lot out of me and I had a nice nap and rested the rest of the day.
