Rubik

Today some happy things are:

  • Last night and this morning I got involved with my rubik's cube. It had been sitting, forgotten, on a shelf and I stumbled upon it yesterday. For a bit too long I twisted and turned it last night. The same this morning. I've solved the original rubik's cube in the past, this is the larger version. I'm not sure if I will ever solve it, but every so often, it is fun to try.

  • Last year I stated to the family that the yard is too much for me to care for by myself with my job. This year we are taking turns getting different parts mowed and it is working better for me.
  • There were some pretty wild flowers out back, so I didn't have to mow them.
Possibly a Sulphur cinquefoil.

  • A garter snake was in the lawn compost pile.

Yard Work

Some of today's happy things:

  • Zed and I worked in the yard today. He mowed and I used the weed wacker. I also pulled a bunch of weeds and cut back a tree that shouldn't be where it is. Some of the yard looks better. There is a lot of yard here.

  • While I tried to take a nap Zed, his dad, and Gideon worked on making a mirror bank. When coins are put in it, you can't see them. It is a pretty neat design. Gideon showed me the secrets, it even has a burglar deterrent.

  • TF was telling me how her cats will swipe the screen on her iPad so the picture changes. This made me think of the dating apps they talk about on TV. Swipe one way for a date and another for no date. And then I wonder what dates the cats would choose! 🤣

Beltane

Happy May Day!  Here are some happy things from today:

  • The rain stopped for a little while so Keziah and I went outside and did a small bit of yard work. There is a small, steep hill that I don't like to mow. We raked it, pulled up some of the soil, and planted some mixed wildflowers there.

  • Basil roots are growing through the netting of the seed starters they are in. I have paced two of them in larger pots with more soil to help them grow.  I'll try to do the others next week.

  • There are more tulips blooming. I'm looking forward to more blooms over the next week or so.

  • The rhododendron in the side yard is blooming. The one in the backyard is not.

Short

A few happy things from today:

  • Summer should not be here yet but the temperatures were again in the 80's today. Keziah and I got some yard work done but it was too hot to do much.
  • The daffodils are open.

  • The roses are a little bit pruned and a lot weeded. There are some leaves just starting to open..

Yard

A short list of happy things:

  • As I write it is rainy outside. The day began sunny though and I was able to go outside and do a small amount of work in the yard. Last fall we didn’t get things in the yards as cleaned up as we should have and so there is quite a long list of things now. I started small and only worked a little over an hour. The little bit I did looks a lot better now. It was an accomplishment for the day, and I am glad I got something done.

  • I’m thankful for this day off from work when I could get some things done and also take it easy. I had a nice nap and did some self care.
