Happy Birthday to Keziah

On this day in 1990 I got the best job in the world and became a mom.  Keziah turned 33 years old today.  Some other happy things for today are:

  • Most of my day was spent helping out at DIY Craft & Thrift.  More great products went out on the floor to be sold.  I even noticed one thing that I put out today, get sold today.
Check out all that ribbon and rick rack!

The new window display.
It isn't quite finished.

  • A few friends came by the store to help out and wish Keziah a happy birthday.  It was nice to get to visit with so many people.
  • The prompt for Inktober was Golden.  I thought about a simple pot of gold, and decided against it.  Instead I attempted a golden retriever.  The proportions aren't quite right,  but I think it still looks like a dog.

Map

Thursdays are long.  Here are some happy things:

  • I managed to unplug the Kia to take to work.  I wish I knew what was different.  The last few times I tried and I wasn't able to unplug it.  Today, I could.  Also, the car will read text messages to me.
  • Keziah, Zed, Keziah’s dad, and I went to dinner at The Red Arrow Diner tonight.  Gideon had a game night with friends.  I had their stuffed French toast.  It was stuffed with pineapple and cherries.  It was really good.  I couldn't finish it so I'll get to enjoy it again for breakfast tomorrow.

  • The Inktober prompt for today was Map.  I made up a little trail.

Dodge

Some happy things from today:

  • The Kia Niro (new to us car) wasn't plugged in when I went to work last night so I was able to drive it.  The night before last I couldn't figure out how to unplug it, so I took the van to work instead.  It survived the night in the work parking lot.  The only comment I got about it from someone is that it is a lot bigger than what I am used to.  I didn't even know someone saw me in it.  It was another way too hot for October day. The air conditioner and air conditioned seat were appreciated.
  • There is a bush covered with berries in the yard that I don't remember identifying earlier in the year when it might have been blooming.  According to Lens, they are Goji berries.

  • The Inktober prompt for today is Dodge.  Way back when, I had a 1975 (?) Dodge Dart.  I attempted to draw one.  I did look it up online to refresh my memory.  It isn't good, but you can tell it's a car.  😁

Path

My happy things for today are:

  • Surprise for me!  I seem to have slept mostly okay last night.  Monday is my transition day from being awake days to being awake nights.  Usually I have a hard time falling asleep.  I didn't yesterday.  I did a lot of tossing and turning, but always went back to sleep.
  • Keziah asked me to vacuum the store after work today. Unfortunately, the vacuum didn't want to work.  I did get to see the progress on the window art.  I hope the artist doesn't mind that I got their picture with the art.

  • While I was at the store I also got a picture of the new way the flowers are being displayed.  I really like how it looks.

  • Gideon's enthusiasm over finishing the book he has been reading has inspired me to read the book series.  I can't remember if I read it or not when Keziah was his age.  I have added the first book (Alanna, by Tamora Pierce) to my list on the Libby app.
  • The prompt for Inktober is Path.  I took the time to find plain paper and a pen.  It is still a quick sketch though.

Spider

Today my happy things are:

  • It was my turn to drive the new car.  Keziah and I did some errands together so I had some guidance over some of the random buttons.  It is an enjoyable drive.  It has some beeping that I'll need to get used to.  An example would be getting closer to the drive-up than the car thought I should be.  It also let me know when the car in front of me advanced, and I didn't.
  • Outside leaves are turning from green to lovely shades of red, orange, and yellow.

  • Keziah got some fabric today.  It has a name that isn't coming to me, but it has the sequins that look different depending on which way they are pet.  Keziah is going to make it into a petting board for the store.  It is something that will entertain young children.  The fabric was spread over the comfy sack and Nanni, our brown tabby, decided to check it out. After walking on it and sniffing a bit, she decided to find another place to relax.

  • Spiders are not my favorite thing.  I can appreciate that they have a use, but I don't particularly like them.   Today the prompt for Inktober is spider.  Again, I didn't take a lot of time or use ink.  I did try to make something more humorous than scary.

Inktober

 Some happy things from today:

  • This morning I had hoped to go shoot archery.  I did not.  It got late and I had a bunch of things I wanted to accomplish.  I rested on my bed and practiced my DuoLingo.  I woke up an hour later.  I guess I needed more sleep.
  • While doing the dishes I played some music and started to sing.  My lyrics turned into, "and I can't hold a tune today, but I'm going to sing anyway."  Gideon and I laughed.  He agreed that I should sing anyway.
  • I stepped outside and checked out the plants in the front of the house.  The butterfly weed has long seed pods.  If I remember, I might harvest some to plant somewhere else.

  • I didn't use ink, or take much time, but I did do a little doodle for Inktober today.   The prompt today was dream.  I'm not an artist.

Pictures Paint What Color?

Some happy things from the last day of September:

  • The new car that Zed and Keziah bought is very nice.  It has things like seats that are heated AND air conditioned.  I haven't driven it yet, maybe tomorrow.  The ride is smooth.
It is more orange than red.

  • Most of the day was spent at Keziah’s store.  We got more product on the floor, but not as much as was donated today.  Things are changing there, including the hours for next month.

We filled the car up twice with donations!

The people used to shop at Zayre's!
My mom used to work for Zayre.

  • After we closed the store, the others went to a local art gallery.  I didn't want to be with that many people so I walked through a nearby cemetery.  I only saw a small amount of Blossom Hill Cemetery  because it is so big.  The sunset was pretty from the top of the hill.  I took a series of pictures, eventually zooming in most, if not all, of the way in with the camera on my phone.  It did some interesting things to the color, but I like the effect.

This picture probably shows the closest color of the sun.

  • In the evening I untangled some yarn.  I didn't take a before picture, just mostly done and done pictures.  When I don't have a time crunch or other external pressure, I find untangling things relaxing.

Lavender yarn.
I hope the colors are better for you, dear reader.  This looks pink for me.
