Happy Simplify Your Life Day!

TF and I had a productive time in the new Minecraft realm. We finally have armor and feel so much safer now.  With the armor, TF survived being attacked by some skeletons.  We didn’t get quite enough iron to make armor for the other players, maybe another time. Other happy things for today:

  • Cheating was sort of involved, but I emptied one of my many boxes today. Part of it was put into another box because it was mostly more stationery items. Now there is one box with mostly stationery instead of two with some. My goal for Simplify Your Life Day was to empty one box and throw away at least one thing. Goal achieved.
Empty box!

  • Keziah’s van has been in the shop for the last few weeks. This morning Zed, Gideon, and I drove about an hour to pick it up. We are back to having two vehicles. Keziah is still in Texas, this makes getting her at the airport much easier for Zed.  I can still work while Zed picks her up.
  •  The sun was out this morning and the porch warmed up so I checked on the seeds. The one marigold seedling is doing okay. I decided to plant more seeds in the dirt that I am pretty sure were disturbed by the cellar varmints. Still nothing sprouting from the geranium seeds. I have a feeling most of them were eaten since there seems to be a lot of holes. From the herb seeds that I just planted I only saw signs of one thing starting to sprout. It hasn't been that long though.

Just Hanging...

Some happy things from today:

  • They served breakfast at work this morning. I didn't want any of the breakfast sandwiches but I had some of the nice fruit salad. It was yummy. I feel like the food was a consolation prize because the new equipment isn't ready as planned.
  • While looking for something to watch I found a memory from when I was a little girl, Family Affair. In all honesty, I remembered very little about the program except that I would watch it and enjoy it. After watching the first two episodes today I can say that I still enjoy it. I wonder if I shed sentimental tears as a child the way I did as an adult?
  • I've just spent too much time thinking about a coat/clothes hanger. As I hung up a tee-shirt to dry I thought about this one hanger that I think I've had since I was a kid. It is still fairly shiny and new looking even though it could be around 50 years old. It is a good metal hanger. It is not flimsy like dry cleaner hangers or plastic which can break easily. Tonight, maybe because I'm tired, thinking about a hanger and all the clothes it has seen and still it holds on, made me happy.

Happy March!

Happy first day of the month that spring begins in! March is also Women’s History Month. One of the games I play, Chrono, highlighted women in today’s game. Other happy things from today:

  • Leaving for work last night there was a lovely moon and some stars that could be seen amid the clouds.

  • Very little was gotten rid of, but I did attempt to go through a box today. I chose a file box. It turns out that much of what is in there are things I wanted to keep. It got overwhelming fast, but a few things were trashed/recycled.

  • Tomorrow, at work, we are supposed to start using a new partially automated system. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all works.
  • The greenhouse seems to be doing alright with the limited amount of heat that the pads are giving it.  There is still only one plant growing from my original group of seeds that I planted.  I am probably going to add more seeds on the next sunny day.  I'm trying to keep the greenhouse closed as much as possible to keep the heat in.

Snow

It snowed today but not enough to slow things down much at work. I have to admit I was hoping to take the day off. My happy things for today:

  • The snow is pretty. It has taken me most of the winter to feel this way, and now I do.

  • I did something different today and had lunch at the table with Zed and Gideon. We don't usually end up eating at the same time and I usually watch something by myself. It was nice to share a meal with my family.

Happy Monday

Some happy things from today:

  • While exploring comedies to watch on Paramount + I found a different sort of show, Drunk History. It contains snippets of reenactments of historic events told by someone who is drunk. I'm not sure how I feel about this, but it was interesting. I learned a few things, but don’t worry, I don’t trust it completely.
  • For lunch today Zed and Gideon made one of the meals they got from Hello Fresh. I adjusted my portion a little because I don’t care for mayonnaise, other than that it was pretty good. Last night’s meal from there was also good. Meal planning is one of the places where this family struggles. Hello Fresh is certainly helping relieve some of that.
  • A few days ago I went shopping… hungry. This is never a good thing. I ended up buying cookie dough that could be baked or eaten raw. It’s gone now, I enjoyed every raw bite.

Slow Day

It was a slow day. Here are some happy things:

  • The cold I have has almost run its course. The symptoms have all lessened, except that I am still very tired. Maybe I'm just letting myself get more sleep.
  • I'm really enjoying the two books I'm currently reading. The Wedding Dress Sewing Circle, by Jennifer Ryan, is an historical fiction. The story revolves around some women during World War II in England. I like how the author puts in details about the rationing and food laws from the time.
  • Unenchanted, by Chanda Hahn, is a modern day fairy tale aimed at teens and young adults. It follows the life of a teenager who is a descendant of the Grimm brothers. She is cursed to finish their fairy tales with possibly deadly outcomes. It is the first in a five book series (maybe five so far?) that, according to Amazon, I purchased back in 2015 for my Kindle app. Well, at least I am finally reading it!

Some Seeds Planted

Some happy things from this Friday:

  • Despite the cold (both the temperature and the virus) I went shopping this morning. My main goal was to buy some seed starting coconut coir, but I picked up some groceries too. At home I planted some flat leafed parsley, thyme, peppermint, basil and curly leafed parsley. All the seed packets are from previous years so there is no saying whether they will grow or not. It feels good to try. They also aren't as warm as they should be, but I will remain hopeful.

  • TF, Gideon, and I played Minecraft tonight. Zed joined us too! We are enjoying exploring this new world.
